Listen to Your Gut When Choosing a Lawyer

Published March 29, 2022

When you are in the market for a new lawyer, it is important to remember to “listen” to your gut. A good lawyer will save you time and money in the long run and can help you avoid costly mistakes. You know you have found the right lawyer when the attorney speaks to you in a way you can understand.

Your attorney will also answer all your questions regarding your rights and the specific matter they’ll be handling. Do you have a specific legal matter? Select your lawyer based on their area of expertise, such as divorce, elder law, estate planning, etc. Some questions to ask yourself when choosing a lawyer:

  1. How long have they been in practice?
  2. What is their track record of success?
  3. Do they have any special skills and/or certifications?
  4. Do they outsource any key legal tasks for functions?
  5. How will they inform you of developments in your case?

If you are still unsure which lawyer is right for you, please contact our Member Services Department with any questions.
